Why Employers Must Take a Closer Look at their Benefits Package

Designing an effective benefits package that covers employee needs and wants and still allows a company to meet its bottomline is one of the most difficult challenges employers face. For one, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all benefits package that will satisfy all employees within one organization. This is particularly true if there are demographic as well as geographic factors to be considered.

These days, employers must be able to offer a wide range that their employees will find valuable, regardless of their age, status or level. Married employees, for example, might not appreciate benefits that cater to the type of activities that appeal to single employees. Therefore, benefits packages should vary in order to satisfy the many types of staff within a single organization. Designing and integrating an effective benefits package is also crucial in company mergers. The benefits ranging across the two companies must undergo a benefits analysis to reconcile their differences.

Employee Awareness
Another important aspect of benefits administration is to ensure that employees understand exactly what they receive. According to Finch, benefits and bonuses must be included in total compensation statements along with base salaries. When employees have a visual record of what they receive, they inevitably appreciate it more.
